Harry Partch explored and devised all sorts of strange scales, tunings and intonations and made the instruments to play them. In this video he gives a demonstration of his creations including the 43 tone scale.

You'll hear how he influenced the works of diverse artists such as Steve Reich, Tom Waits and The Residents.

Often I find him to be difficult listening, but watching this video gave me a renewed appreciation.

I was drooling over those records.
